本文探討在較大的社會距離下，兩性的拒絕行為及其差異性。我們利用電話訪問方式，蒐集澎湖民眾拒訪的回應。調查發現兩性的拒絕策略、話輪轉換、拒絕模式有些類似。面對陌生人的打攪，男性和女性多選擇「打斷話輪」表示拒絕。但是，配合從拒絕策略的平均分數來看，女性比男性略為注意禮節。兩性傾向以「講理由」、「模糊語」和「道歉」的策略來緩和氣氛，其中，男性比較喜歡說籠統的理由。多數的男、女性採用「重複間接拒絕」模式。

The purpose of this study was to observe refusal behaviors and the behavioral differences between men and women when interacting with those at a distance from themselves. The researcher collected refusals of residents in Tainan by telephone survey. It was found that the refusal strategies, turn-construction transitions, and methods of both sexes were somewhat similar. When confronted with a phone call from a stranger, both men and women chose cutting short the call to express refusal. On the average, females were slightly more polite than males, and both sexes tended to use making excuses, vague words, apologies, and "repeated-indirect-refusal" methods.
