Maps along the Great Wall in Shanxi stored in the
National Palace Museum of Taiwan and the Kyoto
University were compared and analyzed. This article
makes it clear that: (1) the National Palace Museum
owns two different Maps along the Great Wall in Shanxi,
which are very similar to the Map stored by the Kyoto
University. These maps are regarded to belong to a
series of 'Maps along the Great Wall in Shanxi.' (2) A
whole set of 'Map along the Great Wall in Shanxi' has
three sub sets of twenty sheets of maps: the first set (six
maps) covers the geographical area along the east line of
Great Wall, the second (six maps) covers the area along
the central line, and the third (eight maps) covers the
area along the west line. (3) In each set, maps are piled
up basically from eastern map (top page) to western map
(bottom page). (4) Two Maps in the National Palace
Museum consist of twenty-two sets of 148 maps. (5) The
Map stored in the Kyoto University, which has thirteen
sheets of maps, does not have five maps along the
central line and two maps along the west line. (6) The missing maps from the Map stored in the Kyoto
University could not be found at the National Palace
Museum. (7) White colored ramparts, which are made of
stones, are drawn in the Maps stored in the National
Palace Museum, but not in the Maps stored in the Kyoto
University. (8) Significance of rampart colors is clarified:
indigo-blue-colored ramparts are made of tiles, and
light-brown-colored ramparts are made of mud.
