維護「環境安全」是環保署為全民健康最重要之政策。專案成員有鑒於在門診公共區域、廁所或治療室之垃圾筒中，屢見使用塑膠袋或紙袋打包之感染性廢尖類廢棄物，基於維護環境及執業安全之理念，而引發本專案之動機，旨在增加病患居家使用後廢尖類器具之正確回收。於2009年6月起，經採1.設計及製作「廢棄空針、針頭回收衛教單」；2.於門診治療室及診療室，提供病患有蓋堅硬收集盒；3.舉辦護理人員在職教育；4.於治療室「針頭回收筒」張貼標示及正確收集方式之圖樣；5.制作及張貼防範民眾棄置公告等5項措施，期望降低病患不正確回收件數，每月在3件以下，經連續評值六個月，由原平均每月18.1件降為2.0件。在2009年12月至2010年2月均為0件，達專案設定之目標，顯示所採之改善措施確實有成效。

To maintain the "Environment Safety" is the most important policy for national public health of Taiwan Environment Protection Agency (EPA). From the observation of our stuffs, it is quite frequent to see the infectious sharp biomedical waste wrapped within the plastic or paper bags in the trash cans located among public area in OPD, toilet room as well as therapeutic room. Based upon the ideas to protect both the safety of environment and stuff's, we started this proposal and aimed to instruct home patients how to adequately recycle the biomedical sharp waste. Started from June, 2009, we adopt the following strategy to accomplish the goal that the event rate of inaccurately recycle below 3 per month. These strategies include: (1) Design and make the education brochure about how to recycle the biomedical needle waste; (2) Offer the hard and safe container with cover for patient to recycle those biomedical needle waste in OPD and therapeutic room; (3) regular continue medical education (CME) for nursing stuffs; (4) Post the icon and label to show the accurate way to recycle; (5) formal announcement to prevent patients from casually throwing the biomedical sharp waste. After evaluation for consecutive 6 months, the event rate of inaccurately recycle reduced to 2.0 per month from previously 18.1 per month. Moreover, there is zero event of inaccurately recycle could be found from Dec.2009 to Feb. 2010, which attaining the goal of this proposal. It demonstrated that this proposal for improving the inadequate recycles really works and was effective.
