網路環境的頻寬變化,會影響直播影音串流的收看品質。有許多方法被提出來改善此問題,目前最為簡單有效的是一種叫做畫框忽略的技術。當可用頻寬不足時,此方法會優先丟棄較少被其他畫框參考的畫框,直到剩餘畫框的平均位元率略低於可用頻寬為止。如此做法,由於沒考量到剩餘畫框的播出時間限制,所以可能把寶貴的頻寬用在傳輸來不及播出的畫框。因此,本論文提出一個新的頻寬感知串流方法,其特色為我們以「改變畫框的傳輸順序」代替「丟棄畫框」,且在指定傳輸優先順序的過程中,會同時考量畫框的播放時間限制,以及其解碼失敗會影響到的畫框數目。實驗結果證明,本方法計算花費極低,且可以達到在相同的可用頻寬條件下,傳輸較畫框忽略方法更多張的有效播放畫面,因此可達到更平順的播放效果。

英文摘要

The variable behaviors of current Internet may negatively impact the user perceived quality of live media streaming. Many streaming schemes adaptive to network bandwidth are proposed. Among them, frame skipping is the simplest one and can provide intact pictures. In conditions of lacking of available bandwidth, it skips the frames which have fewer referring frames. Because it ignores the limitation of playback time of the frames, the treasurable bandwidth may be wasted in transferring the frames which miss their playback deadlines. Therefore, this paper proposes a new bandwidth-aware streaming scheme. Instead of skipping frames, we adjust the transfer order of frames based on both their playback deadlines and the number of their referring frames. The experiments using real video traces show that the proposed solution can provide free-error and fluent rendering effects in expense of a trivial computation overhead.
