漢魏六朝共八百餘年，歷經九個朝代，每一次的更替都是以無數生命和鮮血為代價的。頻繁的戰亂以及隨之而來的瘟疫和饑餒等，奪去了多少人的生命，包括很多富有才華的文士。倖存的文人不得不對生命的意義、本質、理想、價值進行多元的思考。生命問題對於士人的心靈影響尤巨，故漢魏六朝文學中多有生命的感傷情調。
徐國榮先生所著《中古感傷文學原論──漢魏六朝文士生命觀及其文學表述》一書，以漢魏六朝文士的「生命觀」、「生命文學」為考察內容，可謂抓住了時代的脈搏，透由作者系統化的考察，為讀者展示了一部內容豐富的六朝士人心靈史。
本論文共分六章：壹、前言。貳、《中古感傷文學原論》內容概述。參、《中古感傷文學原論》之特色。細分為三：一、選題切當新穎。二、章節安排有序。三、考察深入，屢有創見。肆、《中古感傷文學原論》待商榷之處。細分為四：一、專有名詞應予以統一。二、「士不遇」之主題只論至兩漢，未能述及魏晉六朝。三、感傷文學主題應可加上「死亡主題和墳墓意象」。四、可分析感傷情調的大時代背景。伍、結論。

Xu Guorong’s Discussion of Medieval Sentimental Literature—Life Perspectives and Literary Interpretations of the Literary Men of Wei, Jin and Six Dynasties revealed the life perspectives and life literature of the literary men during this period, capturing the pulse of the times and demonstrating a content-rich spiritual history of the literary men through the author’s systematic study.
This paper is divided into six chapters: chapter one, the foreword; chapter two, the content overview of Discussion of Medieval Sentimental Literature; chapter three, the characteristics of Discussion of Medieval Sentimental Literature, which is broken down into three sections—a. suitable and novel topic selections, b. structured chapters and c. in-depth investigations and innovative ideas; chapter 4, issues open to question in Discussion of Medieval Sentimental Literature , which is broken down into four sections—a. proper nouns should be unified, b. the theme of being underappreciated was only referred to Han Dynasty, failing to address Wei, Jin and Six dynasties, c. sentimental literature should be coupled with death themes and grave images and d. analysis of sentimental background of this period; chapter five, conclusions.
