《蝴蝶巷春夢》所收的九篇短篇小說，分別發表於2004 年1 月至2006年4 月，是葉石濤一生最後的創作。最突出的是此部小說集的敘事聚焦在男女性愛上，並藉一個十八歲的殖民地少年簡明哲為陽性主體，他以「性」駕御了眾多女性身體，由此可看出作者意欲從國家大敘述的壓抑中突破的敘事企圖。這種書寫不僅是簡明哲身體情欲的啟蒙與解放，因為彼時如火如荼的殖民統治與戰爭氛圍的關係，其實也隱隱指向一個男性「國家意識」的啟蒙與解放。本文除尋找作者的書寫位置之外，亦嘗試以身體為主要觀察點，探討小說中身體做為生命的載體，它在殖民社會可能會引發的意義。本書或許是葉石濤再次利用殖民場景所建構的一則國族寓言，然而作者關注的是身分的主體性問題，所凝視的並非女體，而是雄壯年輕的男性身體。本論文即以此為切入點，從闡釋男性身體著手，嘗試解讀在面臨強大殖民政權時，主角身為被殖民男性所演示的情欲內涵。
