英文摘要

Individual's mental model is an inner representation for explaining and predicting similar situations phenomenon occurred of the external environment. Vosniadou (1994) proposed the framework theory to explain the difficulty of the conceptual change. The learner* s mental model progressively changes from initial model to scientific model. On the basis of analysis literature, there are two methods to diagnose mental model that is interview and two-tier diagnostic assessment. This study adopts Kelly* s repertory grid technique to diagnose mental model basing on the results of loannides and Vosniadou (2001). The findings are (1) Kelly’s repertory grid technique could differentiate different mental model from students’ responses with valid through expert validity and discriminant analysis; (2) There are different modes of mental models compared with the results of loannides and Vosniadou; (3)The learner s responses are related to what question contexts are. Finally, this study implicated that the introduction of computer tools can help researchers determine the mental model of the learners as the basis of a large-scale quantitative measurement.
