英文摘要

This study aims to analyze the cultural transmissions represented in the words and pictures of Phoebe Gilman's "Something from Nothing”. Four major types of concepts are found: (1) Family culture: family bonds between the Jew's grandfather and grandson, family love and empathy, and elders* intelligence toward old stuff. (2) Community culture: the Jew’s native art, family time, community's cohesiveness. (3) Ethnic culture: the Jew’s adaptive capacity, thrifty and creativity. (4)厘mage representation: to highlight multicultural story through the interaction of images and texts,the use of visual focus,coherent pictures,and the sectional cutaway view. Based on these findings, researchers recommend the picture book to be used as multicultural materials for elementary and junior high school teachers.
