The present study provides a review of research literature accessed through the CEPS amti Library. The study consists of an analysis of 11 previous research studies about the health of new immigrated women published in the journal from 2000 to 2012. The analytical results are based on the sample characteristics, methodology characteristics, and results of these earlier research papers.
The first findings of note regarded sample characteristics. Prior to 2005, no studies addressing the health of new immigrant women were found. In 2006, some studies began to focus on new immigrant women. The number of studies published from 2009 to 2012 was not significantly different from the number published from 2006 to 2008. Most of the studies were conducted by scholars and clinical nursing personnel, and communities provided the principal research setting. The content of the studies was focused on maternity nursing and preventive health nursing. The second findings of note were in regard to the studies’ methodological characteristics. The primary research design utilized was that of exploratory/descriptive research. The inclusion criteria of the samples were well described, and the validity and reliability of the instruments were also well described. Questionnaires were used most frequently to collect data. The third findings of note were regarding the results of these earlier research papers. The sample characteristics indicated that the new immigrant women came mainly from Southeast Asian countries, had lived in Taiwan at least one year, were generally 21 to 29 years old, and were educated below the senior school level. Most of the research papers did not describe sample attrition, but all the research results and research purposes did each other. These findings provide information regarding trends and developments in research focusing on new immigrant women.
