Due to the complex and abstract nature ofchemistry, students often have difficulty acquiringscience concepts, especially at atomic level. To helpstudents understand chemistry, researchers havesuggested a variety of instructional approaches. Thepurpose of this paper is to propose anEnglish-Mandarin Bilingual Material by concept mapsfor students to familiar English terminology andimprove their concept understanding in chemistrylearning. This material is built up for nursing studentswho enrolled in a five-year junior college. The contentsare focused on “Atomic Structure and Periodic Table”unit in chemistry textbook and subunits consist ofatomic structure, atomic orbitals, and electronarrangement of elements, periodic table and periodicity.The difficulties of material development and ways toovercome are presented. By adopting supplementarymaterials, teachers may collect students’ feedback torefine and improve their teaching efficiency. As forstudents, they may enhance their concept understandingby reviewing this material after school. Further, thismaterial may increase students' learning performanceand English terminology competency.
