本研究探討台灣大學生英文作文的搭配詞錯誤,藉由分析31 篇作文找出搭配詞問 題,再進而分類為文法錯誤和用字錯誤,目的在找出台灣大學生主要搭配詞錯誤的類型 和原因,尤其著重從語意成分的觀點來解釋學生所犯的用字錯誤,以做為教學建議。結 果發現最常見的用字錯誤和母語干擾有關,顯示學生不明白英文內容單字(content words) 和其中文翻譯字之間的細微語意差異。最常見的文法錯誤則出現在介系詞的使用,顯示 學生對此種功能字(function word)的意義掌握不夠。本研究建議在教學中介紹內容單字 及其同義字的語意成分,並加強介系詞意義的解釋。
This study investigates collocation problems in English writing by Taiwanese university students. Thirty one English essays were scrutinized to locate collocational misuses, which were then divided into lexical problems and grammatical errors before further analyzed and interpreted. The primary purpose of this study is to pin down the types and causes of major collocational misuses in English sentences by Taiwanese university students. Of special interest is to interpret the lexical collocational problems from the perspectives of semantic components with an attempt to offer pedagogical implication in this regard. The results of this study reveal that the most common lexical collocational problems stem from negative L1 effect, indicating insufficient knowledge of the subtle semantic differences between English content words and their Chinese counterparts. Besides, the most frequently seen grammatical collocational errors concern misuses of prepositions, which reveals potential learning difficulties in the meaning of this type of English functional word. Pedagogical suggestions are made to implement instruction of semantic components of English content words and meanings of English prepositions.
