國內有關景觀道路的文獻首見於南部區域計畫，文中並提及數條省公路為景觀道路；近來更有許多有關景觀道路之規劃研究，無不以保護道路景觀資源與提昇遊憩品質為目標。本文首先分析國內、外之相關研究，歸納出景觀道路的意義與內涵，嘗試根據現有道路特性研擬出評定為景觀道得路的原則，最後舉南橫公路梅山至埡口段為例進行評定分析。

The first paper about Scenic Road were in the Southern Regional Plan; there follow many studies lately. Protecting the Scenic resource and recreational quality are their common concerning goals. This paper reviewed reaserchs, both of domestic and foreign, which leads to conclusions about the sense and meaning of Scenic Road. According to the characteristics of current road conditions in Taiwan, criteria for assessing quality of the Scenic Road were developed. A section of Meishan to Yakou, on South Cross-Island Highway was choosen to demonstrate the assessing procedure.
