This essay will focus on three problematics from the perspective of individualization in late-modernity: 1. How do the homosexuals in Taipei practice sex/erotic acts in the circumstance, in which being natural, being healthy and being pure are the main claims of spa activity? 2. Are gay sex/erotic acts the perverse sex addiction, or the corporeal practice of autonomy, self-reflexivity and individuality? 3. Should sex/erotic acts in public space be definitely defined as public sex? Can they be the performativity of private sex? Pondering on these three problematics may help us sketch a picture of the relationship between spa and gay sex/erotic acts in Taipei. The interaction between spa and homo-sexuality will be analyzed in three ways: 1. Re-reading reports and documents to reflect the attitude of heteronormative society towards (gay) sex/erotic acts (or gay group). 2. Introducing relevant theories to analyze gay sex/erotic politics and its individualized performativity in late modernity. 3. Interviewing gays who have spa experience to present strategies of the homosexual in fulfilling physical and mental needs and their response to the surveillance of heteronormativity. By doing the research in these three ways, this essay aims to explore the interminglement between spa and sex/eroticism, to present the multilayered sex/erotic acts of the homosexual in spa space, to analyze the individualization of gay sex/erotic performativity, to question the boundary between the so-called "public" space and "private" sex/erotic acts, and to realize the multiplicity and flexibility of spa space and its activities.
