Yeh Ching-cheng is a successful entrepreneur who believes in the notion of “Going along with fate, while repaying great parental love.” After collecting thirty-two Buddha statue heads, he hoped to aid the efforts of the Tianjin-Wuqing District government to return these treasures, which had been taken to Taiwan, back to mainland China and rematerialize their beauty. On January 28, 2013, the Tianjin City Archives in Wuqing hosted a ceremony to celebrate Yeh’s donation of the thirty-two Buddha statue heads. Afterwards, experts and scholars from both sides of the strait launched an in-depth investigation and field study upon learning that “Number 25” was possibly a portion of a pagoda from Anhui-Bozhou built by the Liu and Zhao families during the Tang Dynasty. This article serves as a report of the findings by both authors in their investigation, which took place from November 11 to 18 of 2013.
