Occupational healthcare workers identify the specific/potential occupational hazards to theworkers and provide preventive measures to workers, while performing basic occupational healthservices (BOHS) at workplace. This report examines potential occupational risks faced by workers ofvisual inspection station at a photonics enterprise. Association among working environment, workers’health conditions and their job content were examined and recommendations for work environmentimprovement were also provided. The assessment shows that 77.3% of the visual inspection stationworkers reported to have discomfort in eyes; 90.9% have other physical symptomsother than of theeyes; 13.6% felt the glare of light causes distress; night shift work is significantly associated withworkers having both discomforts in eyes and other physical discomforts(φ = .447, p<.05). Results ofthe logistic regression analysis show that workers having every one hour increase in sleep duration atnight, would lower the risk of having discomforts in eyes (OR=0.19). With the above fi ndings fromBOHS, we therefore recommend the following: 1. to adjust the visual inspection work site illuminationto over 300 lux and angular for exclusion zone should be over 30 degrees; 2. to consult physicaltherapist on the preventive measures by performing stretching exercises, height adjustment of workingplatform and/or microscope, or to provide appropriate backrest seat to reduce chances of havingshoulder shrugging and neck bending forward angle to be larger than 30 degrees; 3. for the workers who have less than 6-hours of sleep, necessary consultation and education should be given, to ensure/encourage at least 6-7 hours of sleep duration a day.
