The aim of the study is to reveal the sweating-promoting function of tsang-ju through the ancient documentation. Wang Ang once referred to tsang-ju as a prominent perspiration promoter. The methodology is to collect the materia medica, classical formula in order to study the proof of the declared function. The result is just like Chang Jie-Gu stated: “the qi of tsang-ju is warm, and its flavor is sweet. The indication is identical to that of bai-ju. It is most potent in regards to modifying sweating disorders arising from upper energizer dampness. In addition, the efficacy of tonifying middle energizer and cleaning the dampness is just as weak as that of bai-ju. ” Therefore, tsang-ju mainly serves to dry the dampness so as to fortify the spleen instead of inducing sweating. So, tsang-ju indirectly provokes perspiration, let alone acts as a strong sweating promoter as claimed by Wang Ang. With the correction of the function of tsang-ju through the ancient documentation, we can further amend the use of tsang-ju in research, development, and clinical use.
