Adopting a learning interface and platform centered on the six consciousnesses(眼耳鼻舌身意)—that is, an approach based on observing with the eyes, listening with the ears, smelling with the nose, speaking with the tongue, acting with the body, and thinking with the mind—learning is carried out first through absorption via the five root senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch), and then continued through the mind (brain), to contemplate and understand.
Insight learning is the extension of self-regulated learning by following a spiraling, circular journey of self-examination, self-confidence, self-regulation and self-consciousness. Self-regulated learning is the foundation of insight learning, and self-regulation is one phase of insight learning.
The methods of insight learning are looking, listening, expression, experience and reflection. Looking can enhance students’ abilities to use their senses to perceive the external environment and obtain experience through hands-on operation and observation. Listening allows students to clearly distinguish the meaning and connotation of messages, leading to acceptance, care and respect, as well as to gain the trust of others. Expression allows students to demonstrate their learning achievements, encourages creative breakthroughs and leads them towards self-realization. Experience facilitates the display of their abilities to experience, act and practice, making knowledge more practical and applicable in daily life. Reflection encourages students to acknowledge and connect their past and present experiences, coordinating emotions, thoughts and actions to produce new realization and appreciation.
