When Philology (樸學) prevailed in Cianlong and Jiaqing years, Mr. ZHAO, with his distinguished intelligence, opened a new path. He, in a macroscopic point of view, sought for reasons resulting in changes in the trends of the times and also reasons for ups and downs. Then he integrated a large number of materials and searched out the problems that had special meanings in a time period. He analyzed the influences that such problems brought to the society and accomplished his remarkable and all-applicable historiography viewpoint. The vivid objective in ZHAO Yi Historiography, the liberality and evolution in his historical viewpoint, the macroscopic historic eyesight and the profound critical consciousness all brought deep and profound influences to the historiography in the 20th century.
