Many poets wrote poems to say goodbye to their loved ones, and Yuxi Liu,s the poems given to 24 departing Buddhist masters should be placed under this category. However, talking about the goodbye poems, the researchers seldom pick Yuxi Liu’s poems and they didn’t regard his poems highly. When relating Yuxi Liu to Buddhism, the researchers only chose the beginning portion of his poem or pick at most two verses, and they rarely selected his entire poem for study. Che Huang pointed out in the chapter seven of his Cricket Creek Poetry that two poets often wrote their poems citing the essence of Buddhism, which were quite different from the ways employed by other poets. One of the poets was Yuxi Liu, who put down “everything comes and goes and this parting is no exception” in his poem given to Master Jun Su. Another one was Dongpo Su who wrote “this moment is no different from the past, so why bother talking so much?”
