On 22 January 2011, while I was searching birds in Lieyu, Kinmen County, with a birdwatching team from Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society, I found an unusual Buteo sp. appearing at a distance. It had very pale underpart and was flying very agilely, and most important it had a dark terminal band in tail. I was just in time to take some digital photographs. After inspecting these photos and discussing with others, I confirmed that it was a Rough-legged Buzzard (Buteo lagopus). Rough-legged Buzzard is a rare winter bird to Taiwan. It does not occurred every year, but there were several records in 2011 spring. I was lucky and happy to see my new life bird
