Collared Owlet (Glaucidium brodiei) is the smallest owl in Taiwan. Unlike other Strigidae, it is known for its diurnal activity. From May, 2009 to August, 2012, we accidentally mist-netted 19 Collared Owlets while carrying out bird banding at the Taroko National Park. All of them were caught in cold months (from November to February). During these months, they seemed to change habitat use to open field and were possibly attracted by mist-netted birds. More owlets were caught in the morning than in the afternoon.
