xA 66 year-old male patient was hospitalized for fever. Blood culture yielded Staphylococcus aureus. Tc-99m MDP bone scan showed increased tracer uptake in L4- L5, ribs and right knee. Gallium scan revealed bilateral oblique intense uptake from lumbar region to hip joint region, which is the typical image finding of bilateral psoas abscesses. Following magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lumbar spine showed spondylodiscitis associated with peripheral thick enhancing walls, central fluid collection and septa in bilateral psoas muscles which indicated abscesses. After administration of parenteral antibiotics, he was transferred to medical center for further surgical intervention.
