資訊科學可以從資訊的產生、資訊的組織與處理、資訊的傳輸與使用三個面向來了解。就這三個部份而論，圖書資訊學對資訊的組織與處理、資訊的傳輸與使用花了較多的心力在探究?對資訊的產生自著墨甚少。本文即是企圖在這方面進行7解，針對人類早期幾個口語傳播的著例(如荷馬史詩‘新約聖經、佛教聖典、可蘭經及論語).探討這些個案由口語傳播邁向書寫傳播的過程。

Information Science could be studied from three approaches: origins of information, the organization of information, and uses of information.
