本研究旨在探討台灣地區製藥產業網絡中心性與創新成效之關係，透過文獻探討提出網絡中心性位置主導技術知識網絡之研究假設，並凸顯跨區域網絡之重要性。再由社會網絡理論之觀點切入，利用網絡分析工具UCINET計算出廠商網絡中心性，藉由網絡中心性的分析與評估，找出台灣地區製藥產業網絡中的關鍵行動者，並以網絡中心性來衡量製藥產業網絡區域內與跨區域網絡對廠商創新成效之影響。製藥產業高度依賴研究發展，技術知識網絡在製藥產業中相當活躍，然而，國內廠商與歐美各國的研發能力相較甚遠，處於技術弱勢的地位，因此，國內業者在生產上往往需要仰賴國外技術來從事研發工作，故本研究之動機係釐清台灣製藥產業廠商是否如同國外，愈居網絡中心位置之廠商其創新能力愈高，以及不同空間範疇的合作關係對於知識傳遞與創新是否有不同影響。研究結果發現，愈居網絡中心之廠商，其分享學習、知識移轉及資訊交流的機會愈大，因此，創新能力愈高。生技醫藥廠商跨區域合作互動情形愈高，對於創新成效愈有顯著性差異；傳統製藥產業則不論是區域內或跨區域的合作，皆能帶給其創新的能力。另外，不同的合作關係亦會影響其創新成效之表現，區域內的網絡較著重於直接網絡所帶來的系統性知識，而跨區域的網絡則著重於間接網絡中多樣化的知識。

The purpose of this paper is to further our understanding of the result of measuring centrality on Taiwan’s pharmaceutical company’s innovative performance, and the effect of cross-regional cooperation on knowledge exchange and innovation. The study is based on the research of the technology, knowledge and innovative capacity of the pharmaceutical industry in Taiwan. We will commence with the revision of the network literature and network position research, as well as a useful method – the UCINET, which attempts to describe and measure the centrality of a company within the social network. By measuring the centrality, one can find out the key player within Taiwan’s pharmaceutical industry and offers an empirical analysis about the effects of intra-regional and cross-regional knowledge networks on a pharmaceutical company’s innovative performance. The empirical result indicates that there is a significant relationship between intra- regional knowledge and innovation performance in pharmaceutical biotechnology industry which outcomes the higher innovative capacity. In addition, both intraregional knowledge and regional knowledge are determinants of successful innovation in the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, result of this study indicates that by occupying a central position in regional network of direct ties, a firm is more likely to access useful knowledge; on the other hand, firms can also innovate successfully in intra-regional network both directly and indirectly.
