今人欲通曉古籍，必須疏通古今語言。文言與白話如何對譯? 以「詞彙」 (不涉聲韻、語法)為例，其次序有三:識本字、勘訛 字與辨正義。 蓋識本字足以勘訛字，勘訛字則足以辨正義，辨正義則足以 通乎聖賢之心志。反之，不能識本字焉能勘訛字?不能勘訛字焉 能辨正義?不能辨正義焉能通乎聖賢之心志? 培養「識本字」、「勘訛字」與「辨正義」能力，必能悠遊古文天地而自得精髓，亦能勝任通識中文、華語教學工作。
