公孫丑問曰:夫子加齊之卿相，得行道焉，雖由此霸王不異 矣。如此，則動心否乎?〈孟子、公孫丑上〉 不動心的「動心」歷來的說法，主要有三，其一、如佛家之 論，面對七情六欲，心如止水不為所動。 其二、趙岐將動心解為 畏懼、畏難，而朱子也有相同的說法，朱子解動心為疑懼:所以 不動心的意思，就是不以身為齊卿相擔負重責大任而擔憂惶恐。 其三、為毛奇齡、焦循所主張，不以齊卿相之高官厚祿而動其心。 本文探討的結果，認為不動心的原初意義應是不疑不懼的大無畏 之心，其剛勇可與日月爭輝。這種大無畏的不動心就是要能夠辦 到「富貴不能淫、貧賤不能移、威武不能屈」。換句話說，以無畏 詮釋不動心，已經涵攝了因「高官厚祿而動其心」的意涵。孟子 不動心的兩個基本要素:知言與養氣，本文將進一步探討知言與 養氣如何關聯到不動心。

The statement of unperturbed mind has, mainly, three kinds of interpretations. First, like the Buddhist's theory, in the face of the seven emotions and the six sensory pleasures, the heart is not swayed like the stagnant water. Second, Zhao Chi thought that perturbed mind is fear, being afraid of difficulties and apprehensions; or suspicion of Zhu Zi. Unperturbed mind is that when someone is appointed a high noble and the prime minister of Chi, he will not fear the heavy responsibility. Third, advocated by Mao Chi-ling, Jiao Xun , that his heart is not wavered when someone is appointed a high- ranking official of Chi. The result of this study reveals that the original meaning of Mencius'unperturbed mind should be the dauntless heart and being not feared. The meaning of an unperturbed mind is to be above the power of reaches and honours to make dissipated, of poverty and mean condition to make swerve from principle, and of power and force to make bend. Two fundamentally important elements of unperturbed mind are: understanding words and nourishing the vast,flowing passion-nature. In this paper, we will discuss further how understanding words and nourishing the vast,flowing passion-nature are related to unperturbedmind.
