本文在朗尼根的神學與哲學脈絡下，檢視神創造及保存實體宇宙的本質為何。從無到有的創造當然是一種神秘。然而只要思考(1)可理解真實之本質，(2)神對萬有的完全理解（存在之理念），(3)因果律作為一種可理解的可靠事物之本質，(4)人類認識與創造之本質，即可獲得有限的理解。神與時間的關係也是任何對於創造之理解的關鍵。神作為時間與過程的創造者，本身必須是永恆的。以這些概念為基礎，進一步評論空間與時間的抽象可理解性，以及受到突現概率所控制的世界過程之具體可理解性。這樣一個演化中的宇宙受到古典及統計定律所管轄，容許真正的新奇，以人類而言即為真正的自由。最後要評論的是「達爾文與德日進之間的對話」以及目前像「特殊創造」與「智慧設計」之類的思辯。

The nature of God’s creation and conservation of the physical universe is examined in the context of the theology and philosophy of Bernard Lonergan. The creation of something from nothing is, of course, a mystery. Yet some limited understanding can be obtained by considering (a) the nature of the real as intelligible, (b) God’s complete understanding of all that is (the idea of being), (c) the nature of causality as intelligible dependence and (d) the nature of human knowing and creativity. The relation of God to time is also central to any understanding of creation. It is argued that God as the creator of time and process must him/herself be timeless. Using these concepts as a basis, further comments will be made on the abstract intelligibility of space and time and on the concrete intelligibility of world process governed by emergent probability. Such an evolving universe is governed by both classical and statistical laws, leaving room for true novelty and, in the case of human persons, true freedom. Finally, some comments will be made on the conference theme of a “Dialogue between Charles Darwin and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin” as well as on current speculations such as “special creation” and “intelligent design.”
