This article interprets the phenomena of religious ecstasy of the Han ethnic group in modern Taiwanese society in the following points: First, how the cosmogonies of divinities (Gods, immortals and Buddhas), in particular the myth of salvation of the Goddess, reveal themselves to the mediums. Second, how the patriarchal symbolisms influence the destiny of the descendants, especially between ancestral souls and female family members. Third, how the spiritual beings find their salvation through the mediums’ universal salvation ritual. I would like to demonstrate how homo religiosus is both oppressed by and liberated from the phenomena of religious ecstasy in the perspectives of class, ethnicity, gender, and generations.
