The purpose of this study was to investigate Beijing residents’ perceived effectiveness of the Beijing Green Olympic initiatives over the course of hosting the Olympic Games. A questionnaire with six sections including awareness, perception, attitude, behavior intention, actual behavior, and demographic background was formulated. It was administered at five time periods including July 2001, August 2007, August 2008, December 2008, and December 2009, all of which corresponded with key benchmark timeframes. Respondents (N = 119) were those who had primarily lived in Beijing from 2001 to December 2009 and were at least 18-years-old in 2001, the legal adult age in China. A doubly repeated measure MANOVA revealed that the mean vector scores of Green Olympics’ effectiveness measures were significantly (p < .05) different over the five time periods, with the trial during the Olympic Games being the highest. Discussion is focused on the implications for sustainability of green initiatives.
