識字可以增能,幫助個體參與社會。臺灣各地為新移民女性適應本地生活 開設相關課程,其中亦有識字課程。接受識字課程後,新移民女性學習成效如 何?本研究分成兩部分探討其閱讀相關能力的表現。研究一共有85 名越南籍新 移民女性參加,平均學習中文時間為兩年,進行中文年級認字量表、聲韻覺識 及畢保德圖畫詞彙測驗,結果顯示其中文詞彙量與識字量相當於本地國小一至 二年級的程度。研究二參與對象為另一群來自中南半島和印尼新移民女性24 人,當時正在補校學習中文,平均學習中文時間為兩年,上課內容為小學課本。 測驗內容有中文年級認字量表和朗讀流暢度測驗。結果發現在文章的念讀表現 上,新移民女性表現顯著低於一般小學二年級學生的表現。基於上述發現以及 新移民女性學習中文屬於成人中文為外語(第二語)者的學習,本研究建議, 考慮制定新移民中文聽說讀寫的標準,而其教材與教法則須因應中文為外語(第 二語)學習,有所調整。

英文摘要

The purpose of this article is to report an effort made to evaluate Chinese language learning achievement among new female immigrants taking adult literacy classes held at night by elementary schools. Several measurements were employed to evaluate their language performances in two studies. Eighty-five new female Vietnamese immigrants participating in Study 1 were requested to complete a Chinese phonological awareness test, PPVT, and a Chinese character recognition test. Their vocabulary size and character size were found to be equivalent to those of first or second graders. The other 27 new female immigrants involved in Study 2 were required to take a Chinese oral reading fluency test as well as the Chinese character recognition test. Their oral reading fluency test performances were found to be below second graders’. Based on the results of the two studies, suggestions were provided with respect to the standard setting for new female immigrants’ listening, reading, speaking and writing. Furthermore, it was also suggested that teaching methods and material should be adjusted in accordance with the principle that Chinese should be learned as a foreign language by new female immigrants.
