失智症是一長期且包含許多症候群的慢性疾病,由於整個疾病歷程有不同的病程變化,出現不同的症狀及行為問題,常使照顧者疲於奔命且影響身心健康。因此衛教家屬有關失智症的照顧知識及技巧,成為失智症照顧的重要策略。門診是提供衛教可及性及可利用性最高之場所,因此,若能由失智症衛教師依個案及家屬需求提供個別性之衛教,必能及時且有效協助家屬處理照顧問題。但國內並未有失智症衛教師之訓練課程,因此規劃失智症衛教師訓練課程,培養衛教師的專業能力是目前首要任務。

英文摘要

Dementia is a chronic disease with multiple symptoms. Different symptoms and behavioral problems may surface at different phases of the entire illness trajectory. Providing care to older adults with dementia has been found to be a burden on family caregivers that may affect their physical and psychological health. Therefore, it is important to educate family caregivers on dementia care. Clinics provide the most accessible and available health education, yet family caregivers are often not satisfied with the health education provided from the staff. Therefore, in order to promptly and effectively help family caregivers manage any care problems, dementia educators must provide individualized education to fit the specific needs of each caregiver. However, there are currently no training curriculums for dementia educator in Taiwan; thus, the first priority is to establish a dementia educator training curriculum to train the trainers and cultivate their professional competencies.
