As the clearest indicator of power transition in the East, China has currently obtained enough confidence and capability to shape international relations and attracted an increasing amount of attention from the world. Nonetheless, in the face of the growing importance of China studies, it is also a fact that International Relations currently lacks an effective analytical framework to understand the rising power, which in turn leads to uncertainties and challenges in the analysis and prediction of China’s external behavior and potential development. This discussion sets out from the perspective of normative power and examines the mutual influence of state interactions based on the social theories of IR. Noting the influences of Chinese culture and the self-identity of researchers on contemporary China, this author ponders over the distinctive character that may come from the transformation of China ’s international status in the future.
