金聖歎是明末清初時著名的小說、戲曲評點家，其所評諸詩文，多冠以「才子」之名，因此，分析金氏著作中有關「才」的論述，就成為欲了解其文學批評理論最重要且直接的切入點。由先天性、後天性，特殊性、共通性這兩組相對的概念來看，金聖歎的評點中，雖亦提及天生才性的高下，但他更以為「才子」可以透過後天的學習而成就。對「才」的先天性與後天性問題之看法，「才可學致」實為其最主要的結論。同樣地，才子之才雖皆有其特殊一面，但金氏更重視的，則是其共通一面，即精嚴的作文之法。因此，他對「才」的特殊性與共通性問題之主要意見，可以歸納為「以法為才」四字。也正因冀望後學能透過學習作文之法成為才子，故以「金針度人」為其批書的重要信念。

Jin Sheng-tan is a famous novel and drama critic in 17th century. The literature that he commented mostly crowned “Gifted scholar(Cai zi)” in the name. Therefore, to analyze the opinion of Jin Sheng-tan on “Cai” is the most important theories of his literary criticism and direct entry point. The major issues of he on “Cai” can be summarized as “ability can be learned” and “to use orderly ways is ability”.
