白話字是書寫台語口語ê 文字，出版品大約有兩千種。早期用 白話字書寫ê 內容雖罔是以宗教性資料佔khah 多數，m̄-koh mā 包括 報紙、字辭典、文學作品kah 語文、數學、醫學、地理等等教科書， kah 彼當陣漢字ê 資料相比phēng，白話字書寫khah khiā tī 常民觀點、 書寫ê 人khah 多元、khah 有傳播智識ê 企圖、保存台語詞彙等等ê 特色。 本文beh 針對《台灣教會公報》1885~1911 年間描寫台灣東部花蓮、 台東ê 文本，做概要ê 整理kah 解讀，部份ê 內容the̍h 來kah 當其時 相關漢字書寫ê 內容做比較，ùi chiâ 來了解彼當時花東ê 情景，論述伊ê 重要性，koh 提出chiah-ê 白話字文本會當進一步應用tī 區域歷史、 台灣文學、台語詞彙變遷等等相關領域ê 研究。

Taiwanese vernacular writing is designed for writing spoken Taiwanese. There are about 2,000 kinds of publications. Besides religion, there are newspapers, dictionaries, literature, and language, mathematics, medicine, geography textbooks. In comparison to the content written in Han character script at that time, Taiwanese Romanization script text has some features : common people’s view, many writers, knowledge transference, preservation of Taiwanese lexicon. This paper will address the “Taiwan Church News” from 1885 to 1911, focus on the articles which describe the Taiwan Eastern region, summarize and interpret them, and compare some of them with the related articles written in Han character script. Try to find the outlook of Hualien and Taitung via these materials. I will discuss the importance, and claim that these Taiwanese vernacular writing texts can be further applied to regional history , Taiwanese literature, Taiwanese lexical changes, and other related areas of research.
