在關於後殖民主義的眾多論述中，翻譯經常被提出並指為殖民 者用以對被殖民者的一種強行附加、改造文化的工具；但從另一個 角度來看，翻譯本身或許便可看作是一場存在著殖民行動，並保有 後殖民性的殖民論述，即「將依附在源語文化下的源語文本 (source text) 以翻譯行為將之轉換為依附譯語文化存在的譯語文本 (target text)」。本研究係從後殖民主義觀點出發，試探討翻譯行為本身，並 以相關後殖民主義翻譯研究論述為理論建構基礎。 根據薩依德 (Edward. W. Said) 提出的「東方主義」 (Orientalism) 與霍米巴巴 (Homi Bhabha) 對於文化翻譯的「第三空間」 (The Third Space) 的提出，以及文化翻譯理論 (cultural translation) 的翻譯觀，試論依附譯語文化之下的譯語文本，與「殖民者―被殖民者」之間的關係可否對等而論？本研究將以此窺探整體翻譯行為，主要描述在翻譯行動中，源語與譯語文本及文化間的相對應關係，並探討譯語文本在譯語文化中生存的可能性。最後提出譯者在這場以翻譯為名的殖民論述中應採取何種姿態來看待、處理兩造間關係。

In many postcolonial discourses, translation is often brought up and referred to as a tool of the colonist by which the culture of the colonized is forcibly transformed. From another aspect, translation also could be seen as an action with colonization as well as characteristics of post colonization; that is, translators translate the source text (which depends on the source culture) into the target text (which depends on the target culture). This study, based on related postcolonialism translation theories, aims to discuss translation itself from the perspective of postcolonialism. According to “Orientalism” proposed by Edward W. Said and “The Third Space” in cultural translation addressed by Homi Bhabha, together with the cultural translation theory, this research focuses on the relationship between the target text which is under the influence of target culture and “colonizers ─ the colonized. ” This study inquires a translation action, mainly describing the corresponding relationship between the source and the target text as well as their cultures and explores the target text’s existence possibilities in the target culture. Finally, it provides translators some advices on treating and dealing with it in the name of translation as a colonial action.
