相較於美國、澳洲及英國等英語系國家，一九八〇年代中期以來 ，台灣各家報社陸績引進的編採自動化過程，可以説是相當平順，引 發的衝突最少，原因是什麼？是不是我國報業結構受到自動化的衝擊 程度，（遠)低於這些國家？而這樣的情％又具有什麼意義？學術界是 不是可以從中汲取一些什麼經驗，啓發敎學及研究的方向？爲了要探 討這些問題，這篇論文將先簡短釐清報業自動化的三種内涵，由此引 出判準，作爲評估後續文字的依據；其次，本文轉入主題，敘述前舉 英語系國家及台灣報業自動化的歷程、自動化的社會文化意義，重點 之一放在勞資之間以及不同勞方之間的關係之探討；最後，筆者嚐試 由前面的討論，反省大眾傳播學術界，可能應該優先作些什麼樣的回應

Taiwan's press industry has, since the mid-1980s, introduced computer facillities into its production process with only some minor corresponding conflicts, which, in contrast, had once erupted newspaper industries ip the States, Australia and the UK. With a view to arguing that new communication technology has consolidated powers of the media conglomerate, this article sets out to analyse how the capitals' gain is at the labour's loss, and why clashes between different sectors of the press workers had contributed to a more efficient control of capital over labour as a whole. As a communication educator, the author then ponders on the preceding discussions: what priorities of work should and can the academic set for themselves facing a media world that is increasingly capitalised.
