本文透過理論探討與實際的案例分析，認爲記者的職貴固然在於 表現事實，但曰常生活中的事實卻有許多的層次（也就是文中所謂的 「事實光譜」），同時，記者處理的新聞事件中，往往含括了可查證 的經驗事實和無法査證的非經驗事實。因此，記者在呈現事實時，必 然會依自己相信程度的高低加以評估，並在文本的不同層次上（本文 區分爲新聞行規的事實語言層次和第二層曰常生活的事實語言層次兩 部份），有意識或無意識地透露出來。 本文並具體分析出新聞記者在新聞行規層次上以及在第二層（曰 常語言）層次上表現經驗事實和非經驗事實的語言機制。這些語言機 制的展現，一方面有助於新聞採訪寫作的敎學，讓敎師能更具體地告 訴學生表現事實的手法，另方面，這些研究的結果對於提高讀者對於 語言表現事實的辨認能力，區辨何謂事實，何謂事實語言，也大有助 益。在語言敎育上，本文的研究結果似亦可對於提昇民眾的「批判性 語言警覺」（critical language awareness)做出初步的貢獻

This paper, based on several case studies of news stories, attempts to investigate the nature of facticity, which, as we have shown, may constitute several layers. To be specific, this paper postulates that the so-called statements on facts may, under close scrutiny, cover a spectrum ranging from statements which lend themselves readily to empirical verification to those which are inaccessible to the senses. The confidence of journalists on the factuality may vary across this spectrum and this may find articulation in journalistic discourse although journalists themselves may not be aware of this process. This paper thus aims to investigate these linguistic devices which are employed in news media to give expression to factuality. An understanding of these linguistic devices may provide guidance to journalism educators who teach ways to express facts. Furthermore the findings reported here may help develop a critical awareness of the nature of facts in news media.
