Based on a survey of 2,628 college and high school students in Taiwan, this study examines the relationship among self-esteem, negative media content, third-person effect, and support for the restriction of media. The results of this study indicate that both college and high school respondents tend to perceive negative media content to have a greater negative influence on others than on themselves. The results also show that self-respect is a better predictor of third-party perception and support for media restriction than is self-efficacy.
