所謂「重勘」，意指以當代之學理、邏輯、工具等，重新梳理《華嚴經》之思惟邏輯；即以今人之立場、語言模式、思惟模式、理論工具等，重新整理思緒，以應此方眾生之需求，而非意在推翻古德之說！言「覓玄」者，即在推進「探玄」之深度，未敢掠前賢之美而避諱之，故曰「覓玄」！將此兩者合稱，略謂「勘玄」。本文即略敘筆者以新理論工具重勘覓玄之初步成果，主要為：發現〈淨行品〉應與〈賢首品〉合為一品經，為整部《華嚴經》之總序，而居於關鍵性之地位；其于大經中，乃居「本體論」與「現象論」間之「方法論」總說；亦即大經中「上、下迴向」之關鍵地位，具有「上、下迴向」之樞紐作用！然而，此僅為《華嚴經》初會、二會之重要發現而已。若以今日之理論工具重探《大華嚴經》，即可發現《華嚴經》之思想範疇，實不僅止於「佛境界」與「成佛之道」，更涵括了「本體論、緣起論、現象論、生命觀、宇宙觀、方法論」等領域，此皆古大德以當時貧乏的理論工具所難以敘明之處，而其境界之深廣更是今日西方哲學所無法觸及的。因此，重勘《華嚴》之玄義，乃是當代思想界最具意義與開創性的巨大工程之一，期勉當代及未來之賢哲共同挖掘此無盡之寶藏！

The meaning of “reconfiguration” is to utilize modern knowledge, logic and educational tools to update and organize the logistics of the《Avatamsaka Sutra》. That is, to use present day stand points, language mode, thinking mode and theoretical tools to reorganize its system of thinking. The purpose of this exercise is to meet modern needs rather than to refute the righteous teachings of the ancients! The term “Profundity research” refers to a deeper undertaking than “Profundity investigation”. Research into the ancients’ teachings preserves their exquisiteness with dignity. Bypassing their splendour would be disrespectful; hence the term “Profundity research”. Combining reconfiguration and profundity research together is referred to as “Profundity Reconfiguration”. The paper briefly describes the preliminary efforts by utilizing new theoretical tools, the reconfiguration and profundity research, and the main discovery is 〈The Pure Practice “Chingshin” Chapter〉 should be combined with 〈The Principal of Virtue “Xianshou” Chapter〉 into a more comprehensive chapter. It is the general preface to the sutra and resides to a central and elevated status. The product is situated between “Ontology” and “Phenomenology” and is “The major ideas on Methodologies”. It occupied a strategic position as the preface to the “Transfer of Merits Upwards and Downwards”, and functioned as the axial of “Transfer of Merits Upwards” and “Transfer of Merits Downwards”! This important discovery is only for the first and second congregation of 《Avatamsaka Sutra》. If we utilize the modern tools to reconfigure on the sutra, it can be found that the area of thoughts of the《Avatamsaka Sutra》is not limited to the “path to become Buddha” and the description of the “Buddha state”, but also include “ontology, dependent origination, phenomenology, view of life, view of the universe, methodology”, etc. They are the fields which are hard to be described by patriarchs at old times, and the meanings are much more profound than the western philosophy nowadays. Therefore, the meaning of “reconfiguration” is perhaps the most meaningful and groundbreaking project in the contemporary. It is encouraged that the current and future researchers to explore more on this great treasure!
