英文摘要

This paper begins with the research question: How would literati painting bloom by being combined with a/r/tography? The purpose of this paper lies in the exploration of literati painting, a/r/tography and the similarities between them, and the development of the literati painting grounded on an aesthetic and philosophical point of view that may be called a/r/tographical literati painting (ALP). This newly compounded term denotes the combination of the two different genres, literati painting and a/r/tography. Literati painting is explained in the context of Eastern literati painting composed of poem, calligraphy and painting. The conceptual background and structure of literati painting, date back to the Joseon dynasty. A/r/tography, a research methodology derived from Western form and concept, is articulated with its structure and conceptual practices shaped through extensive outcomes drawn from text and art. This paper also discusses and classifies three similarities between a/r/tography and literati painting. First, they both integrate art forms with scholarly sources. Second, they both emphasize aesthetic inquiries that emerge from life experience. Lastly, both genres embrace the identities of a doer as an artist/researcher/educator. The positive possibilities that a/r/tographical literati painting brings will be explored as a recommendable tool to improve practical skills and knowledge, implicative/metaphorical description, and academic writing in art education.
