The article suggests that a major goal for the study of art is the development of an educated imagination. Based on the work of Harry Broudy it presents the different uses of our schooling as the basis for distinguishing what art offers. While most of our schooling prepares students based on replicative and applicative uses of what we learn , these are subject outcomes we forget. The suggestion is in studying art we build a store of images so vital for the associative uses of imagination.
