The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of weblogs as online portfolio assessment for arts majors in Taiwan. A weblog, or blog, is an innovation of the Internet. Blogs provide a variety of tools such as recording students’ thoughts, creative processes, and products. What were the advantages and disadvantages of using blogs for arts students? What were the difficulties that students had with using blogs? Ten Taiwanese arts graduate students participated in this study. The research tools included a tutor blog, a class bog, student blogs, and a written interview form. The results show that students published an average of 2.9 posts each month, and 8.2 posts in total during the time of the experiment. The major advantages that students provided were convenience, immediacy, and saving paper, whereas the disadvantages they encountered included lack of interaction with teachers and peers, poor English, and passive behavior.
