Aesthetic education should take daily life as its starting point and be implemented from childhood. Moreover, color education is the cornerstone of the concept of “citizenship aesthetics” currently being promoted in Taiwan. The purposes of this study are: 1) to present the concepts and production process of the interactive installation art for “Eric Carle’s Zoo”; and 2) to explore the influence of color-based interactive installation art on children’s learning and interests. The participants in this study were 18 three- and four-year-old students at a kindergarten in Hsinchu City. Both structured and unstructured observation methods were used for data collection. The results indicate that color-based interactive installation art is beneficial to kindergarten education in three ways: 1) it enhances children’s color perception through hands-on experience; 2) it promotes artistic aptitude and positive attitudes towards color learning; and 3) it helps kindergartens provide novel artistic learning experiences that encourage aesthetic lifestyles. Based on the results of this empirical study the researchers are planning to produce extensive teaching materials, including multimedia teaching materials and an interactive teaching materials backpack. Finally, we present a number of recommendations for related studies in the future.
