英文摘要

This article demonstrates two fundamental Senses of the Law - the Relational Sense and the Instructive Sense, which are included in Luther’s concept of the Law, through exegesis of his 1531/35 commentary on Galatians. After establishing the legitimacy and necessity of both Senses, the author would also address assorted questions raised by the distinction between the two, supported by Luther’s other writings. The author attempts to increase the agreement among Lutherans and further persuade them to love the law as much as they love the gospel. The Decalogue as interpreted by Christ and the apostles is referred for discussion. The reasons that Luther attacks the Relational Sense of the Law but praises the Instructive Sense of it are clearly explained. How these two Senses are mapped out against the Political Use and Theological Use of the law is also addressed. Later, the essay also discusses the temporal order of the law and gospel based on human experiences and God’s will and intention in creation, with the definition of the Expansive Sense of the Gospel and the Restrictive Sense of the Gospel. Finally, the promises of the law are pointed out, in order to convince Lutherans to emulate Luther and love the law too.
