中文摘要

英文摘要

This article seeks to explore the practices of American Chinese churches in making faithful disciples from the migrant Chinese emerging adults through a four-stage practical theology method. It identifies six factors that shape the current practices of American Chinese churches; these factors are market economy, migration experience, Chinese translation, Confucianism, trichotomistic anthropology, and the Free Church tradition. After carefully examining the current practices of American Chinese churches and reflecting on these practices theologically, this article proposes the concept of “participatory discipleship” and reflects on how this concept might have reshape the current practices of discipleship. “Participatory discipleship” urges American Chinese churches to rework their definition of discipleship, calls them to participate in God’s mission, reconciles older and younger generations, and pushes the churches to develop a fuller understanding of themselves as community.
