在「道學衰息」的敘述方式下，南宋道學家們將編刊二程書作為「重光」道學的行動之一。儘管考察南宋刊刻過多少種二程著作存在一定的困難，但刊刻二程著作中的一些爭論不僅反映了道學羣體之間學術意見的紛爭，而且涉及了道學話語解釋權的爭奪。除此之外，刊刻二程書所預設的讀者羣體及對讀者的寄望亦可以看作是另一種道學行動，通過這種閱讀行動，道學形態不僅得以延伸，而且有了新的特質。

Guiding by “Tao-xue in decline” narrative mode, Neo- Confucians take the action of compiling and publishing Cheng Brother’s books as one of steps of rejuvenating Tao-xue. Although the actual number of how many Cheng Brother’s books have been published is still not able to work out, but some arguments coming up during the process of compiling and publishing is not only the debating based on different academic opinions, but also concerns about the power of the explanation for the doctrine. In addition, reader’s reading Cheng Brother’s books can also be taken as another kind action of Tao-xue. Through this reading behavior, Tao-xue’s form is not only to be extended, but also attains its new contents.
