Viewing movies has become a popular method available for teaching English in the language classrooms, making an abundance of studies to explore its effectiveness inevitable. These studies usually showed that movies subtitles benefited a variety of types of EFL learners in numerous ways, with statistical figures for support. Similar results were found for this two-phase quantitative study, with its focus on the influence of watching movies with subtitles on listening comprehension of Taiwanese university EFL learners. Phase I: participants, first semester freshmen at a university located in the Northern part of Taiwan, viewed the same pre-selected movie and then took a multiple-choice test immediately after their viewings. Phase II: the researcher fiirther analyzed the data in detail, revealing that this method mostly influenced learners positively, though negative influences do exist.
