英文摘要

Language learning strategies have been widely studied since the 1970s in hope of improving poor language learners' performance through strategy instruction. Studies have generally shown that good language learners use more language learning strategies and use them more effectively (Rubin, 1975; Chamot & El-Dinary, 1999; Park, 2010). Numerous studies have also investigated the use of language learning strategies among various age groups. However, studies on older adult language learners tend to focus on government policies or psychological impact, and research on the language learning strategies of older adult language learners remain scarce (Huang, 2007). In light of this situation, this study aims to examine the language learning strategies used by older adult language learners at Evergreen Learning Institutes in northern Taiwan. For data collection, the language learning strategy questionnaire was adopted from Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) developed by Oxford (1990), which has been widely adapted to identify the strategies used by language learners. The finding of this study will help educators in Taiwan tailor content and curriculum for elderly students and provide a sound reference for future research.
