自1984年1月復旦大學、中國人民大學獲得新聞學博士學位授予權至 今，大陸新聞傳播學博士生教育已經走過了 32個年頭，大致可分為初創、 成熟、擴展、騰飛與穩健5個發展階段。目前，大陸具有新聞傳播學博士 學位授予權的高校或科研機構，已從2家發展到18家，其中具有新聞傳播 學一級學科（下設新聞學、傳播學2個二級學科）博士學位授予權的高校 15家，具有新聞學二級學科博士學位授予權的高校或科研機構3家。近年 來，大陸博士生教育開始注重內涵發展，加強國際化理念，通過開展國際 合作與交流活動走向世界。

Since the Fudan University and the Renmin University of China were granted the right to confer the doctoral degree of journalism in January 1984, the development of doctoral education of journalism and communication in Mainland China has been 32 years, as divided into 5 stages: start-up, maturity, expansion, explosion and stability. So far, the number of universities or institutions that have been entitled to confer the doctoral degree of journalism or communication in Mainland China has increased from 2 to 18, in which 15 universities have the right to confer the first-level doctoral degree that subordinates two different second-level disciplines including journalism and communication and the rest 3 universities or institutions can only confer the second-level doctoral degree in journalism. In recent years, doctoral education of journalism and communication in Mainland China is paying more attention to its connotation and the idea of internationalization by launching a series of international cooperation and exchange programs.
