Kenting National Park is the most important site for monitoring atumn raptor migration in Taiwan. RRGT was responsible for conducting this survey from 2004. Since 2008, the survey had expanded to include spring migration and found aboundant raptor populations passed in both seasons. The 2012 spring survey was conducted from March 6th through May 5th. On each day, at least 2 counters stationd at 2 different points surveyed simultaneously at least 10 hours. 14 species of migratory raptors were recored this season, including a White-tail Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), which is the first record in this area. The most numberous 2 species were Chinese Goshawk (Accipiter soloensis) and Grey-faced Buzzard (Butastur indicus), with total numbers of 36,570 and 10,542 respectively. 90% of Grey faced-Buzzards passed between March 16th and April 6th, within a period of 22 days. 90% of Chinese Goshawks passed in 16 days, which was from April 15th to April 30th. Daily peak passage hours for Grey-faced Buzzards were from 10:00 to 13:00, and more than 70% of Chinese Goshawks were recorded between 14:00 to 18:00. Population numbers were varied between sites, 48.4% of Gray-faced Buzzards were recorded in the west coast and 74.5% of Chinese Goshawks in the east. However, Population numbers in each areas, daily peaks and passage periods of raptors were various between years, which may relate to population size or the weather conditions during ocean-crossing flight.
